We recognize that the future of study abroad, domestic study away, and international internship programming requires a commitment to sustainability. We are devoted to examining, developing, and improving sustainability in all our endeavors, aligning with campus priorities and following through with UW-Madison’s climate action and resilience commitment. To do this, we are partnering with the UW-Madison Office of Sustainability. Our work will be informed by scientific and professional expertise. Active learning will be required by our staff, the students and faculty we serve, and our domestic and international partners. Our efforts work toward the mutual benefit of program participants and host communities, and the responsible management of finite planetary resources.
Sustainability Action Plan
In 2020, we assembled a sustainability committee of staff. In 2021, we developed a sustainability action plan, informed by the Forum Guidelines for Advancing UN Sustainable Development Goals through Education Abroad, as well as research and interviews with study abroad offices at peer institutions. Our plan is likely to evolve over time, as we continually learn about new resources and opportunities. We plan to share information about our goals and progress regularly.
Green Office Certified
International Academic Programs is proud to have been a pilot member of the Green Office Certification Program through the Office of Sustainability at UW-Madison. Our staff have completed a variety of learning and action tasks, including waste and energy audits, and we are proud to be Green Office Certified. We continue to engage with and implement guidance from the program, so that our staff can be the best possible stewards of our campus spaces and resources.
