Program: UW Wildlife Conservation in South Africa
Majors: Animal and Veterinary Biosciences; Wildlife Ecology
Rowyn studied abroad in South Africa during the summer of 2026 on the UW Wildlife Conservation in South Africa program. During her time in South Africa, she visited multiple locations including the Makalali Game Reserve, Blyde River Canyon and Kruger National Park. This program and these different locations offered insight about wildlife conservation and the history of South Africa.
Some of Rowyn’s favorite experiences on this program were swimming next to the nyala and kudu that frequently walked through camp, practicing her photography skills on the wildlife and interacting with locals that gave her some recipes for traditional regional food and desserts.
Rowyn’s experience on this program has strengthened her love for wildlife as well as allowed her to grow as a person. Through this program, she was able to learn more about different ecosystems and expand her knowledge beyond a regular classroom setting. She is extremely grateful for all of the memories she made and everyone that she was able to get to know personally on this program.
