Major Advising Page: Interior Architecture
Majors in the School of Human Ecology seek to improve the lives of children, families, consumers, and communities. We value study abroad as a high-impact experience that helps students understand the interconnectedness of people and systems that impact us on a global scale.
Course considerations
You can study abroad during your junior or senior year, winter break, or summer. Study abroad can be a great time to complete design-focused coursework.
The interior architecture major is highly sequenced and requires students to complete major coursework on campus. You can study abroad in your junior or senior year without impacting the time to your degree if you work with your human ecology academic advisor to ensure that all required courses are being completed during on-campus semesters.
Students who join the major after their first semester are encouraged to work closely with an academic advisor in Human Ecology to discuss options.
Map your experience as an interior architecture student
You can study abroad during your junior or senior year, winter break, or summer. Most interior architecture coursework cannot be completed abroad, although Design Focus coursework can be an option. If you are also majoring in another discipline, you will ultimately want to determine what works best for both of your programs by consulting with your academic advisors as early as possible in your time at UW–Madison.

- When would be the best time to participate in a program based on my career goals?
- How will participating in a study abroad, study away, or international internship make me stand out?
- Why do I want to study abroad?
- How long do I want to study abroad for — a few weeks, a semester, a year?
