Kristin Calkins

Position title: Study Abroad Advisor & Program Manager

353 Red Gym

As a Study Abroad Advisor, I advise students and manage a portfolio of Spanish and Portuguese language study abroad programs, semester programs in China and Taiwan, and programs in Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. As an undergraduate, I attended a two year college and transferred to UW-La Crosse as a junior. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English and liked college so much that I decided to earn my master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration at UW-La Crosse in preparation for a career in higher education. During my graduate program, I studied abroad in the United Kingdom and had the opportunity to learn about student services practices abroad. Prior to studying abroad, I hadn’t been overseas and was the first in my family to study abroad. I’ve worked at International Academic Programs since 2014 and have served both in my current role as a Study Abroad Advisor as well as in the Enrollment Specialist Advisor role. Before working at UW-Madison, I was an International Student Advisor at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Outside of work, I enjoy biking and spending time with family and friends.
