As the Assistant Dean for International and Experiential Learning within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS), I work to ensure that CALS students have access to study abroad opportunities that meet their academic, personal, and career goals. As a first-generation college student from a small, predominantly white community in southern Wisconsin, I was excited and nervous to study abroad as part of my undergraduate experience at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL). Having returned from a semester in Costa Rica during my sophomore year disappointed with my language acquisition, I decided to complete a summer internship in Mexico with a much more goal-oriented mindset. After undergrad, I taught English in Chile with no idea of what I wanted to do with my Spanish with a Concentration in Business degree. It was not until after teaching abroad that I decided that I wanted to work in international education. While completing a Master’s degree through UWL, I worked in the International Studies Office at the University of Dubuque, and then I worked at the University of Minnesota Rochester for the next 6 years. I joined the UW Study Abroad and CALS family during the summer of 2019. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three little kids, and being outdoors as much as possible.
