Students should also make sure to apply for study abroad-specific scholarships (https://www.studyabroad.wisc.edu/scholarships.html) which can reduce or replace any offered loans.

The Global Gateway Initiative makes study abroad accessible to students with demonstrated financial need (EFC under $12,000) through two different avenues: Summer programs and Fellowships.
UW Global Gateway Summer Program participants receive a full program scholarship, including airfare.
UW Global Gateway Fellowships award $10,000 towards the program fees of any UW-Madison approved semester or year-long study abroad program.
